Color Me 26!

Hi you guys! I'm super stoked about my birthday this year...okay truth is I've been super stoked since Monday about my b day party my friends are giving me. The theme for the party has been decided and the invitations will begin going out today! It's a body painting party yall, and I can't even express how much I'm looking forward to it! I'd love to share this with some of my readers in person and in pictures so if you're in Baton Rouge or surronding areas and you'd like to attend leave a comment or send an email the party is October 25, 2008 and painting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Check the Sideline

If you've noticed the side bar of hue you'll know that I'm an admirer of several chairs, one being "The Ball Chair" by Eero Aarnio. This chair was designed in 1963 and is quite the modern classic piece. I couldn't help but post the new video for Musiq Soulchild's single "Radio", I like the song and love the chair, how could I not share this with you.

Single Ladies! Must haves for the home

Beyonce's video for "Single Ladies" is here...and so are my top 5 must haves for the home of all you single ladies. To my men readers, I'm not trying to discriminate but this one is for the bacholerETTES...at least I posted the video and you can see Beyonce in a bathing suit LOL.

Get a flat screen television and show the guys that they're not the only ones who love tech toys, HGTV is a whole other experience when watched in high definition! You're screen may not be as big as theirs but then again who said size matters?! LOL

A girl has gotta have her favorite artwork. I personally prefer to custom paint all of the art in my home but I decided to share some work by one of my favorite artists, Rosemary Pierce-Lackey. I can watch art like I watch television, having a different emotion evoked each time I look at it, like seeing a picture for the first time every time.

Love the leather! Besides all single ladies owning a bad pair of leather boots, you have to have something leather for your home. I have a leather chair in my room that I kick back in, but you may choose leather pillows, curtains, or a sofa. Either way you'll add to your sexy swag with the look and feel and leather.

I don't know about you but after a long day I spell relief W I N E, and I don't want it out of a plastic cup. You've gotta have some nice stemware, and Go Bytch has a post telling you all about what wines accompany which glasses check her out to make sure you're being proper about it, I prefer which ever glass is the biggest but that's a personal thing LOL.

What girl doesn't love flowers? Even if you don't love flowers at least add plants or some type of life to your home ladies. I have orange daisies on my bedside table I LOVE THEM. Fresh flowers would be nice but when you can't keep that up go for the high end silk flowers and make it work, they'll add that final touch of femme.

Roomie and I have puppies and we absolutely love them! I like to call them ebony and ivory or yin and yang (look at this picture below, I promise I didn't lay them like this, I walked in the room and this is how they'd fell asleep. In the same bed laying like the perfect yin and yang symbols).

Okay, okay, okay...enough of the puppies on to the design! These are some great furniture finds and accessories for the K-9 companions in your life.

Isn't this ironic!

One of my bff's not too long ago moved to a new place and bought new furniture so of course she had to have some original art work for her dining room wall. We decided to get together and have some dinner and do some painting...as WE painted (it was very much so a joint effort, by the end of the night I didn't have a brush in my hand) the picture sort of evolved into somewhat of a mixture of swirls...like a tornado or hurricane with the "eye of the storm" at the top of the portrait. We jokingly called it a hurricanes and even contemplated naming it such. How ironic is it that not even two weeks later Hurricane Gustav hit and devastated Louisiana, 95% of the city is without power and things are a mess. However, this was the end result and I love it...what do you think?

I also recreated a circle painting that I'd done for our recently decorated patio (which Gustav destroyed, but we're planning to rebuild) This is the painting below, scroll down for a photo of the patio in it's original state and you can see a larger version of this painting.

I've been dealing with the business of life, and since we now have a natural disaster in my city (Baton Rouge), I really have even more to deal with but all is well...and I'm BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED! Way Cool Couch

This couch is really cool, the fabric is made to look like pixels, and it's full of color so you know I love it! It was designed by Christian Zuzunaga and you may have seen it on another site already but another look won't hurt.

Speaking of pixels, I pulled up behind this truck and thought it would make a great pop art photo.

I bought a frame that included a matte and held three photos so I decided to manipulate the picture in order to use it for all three frames; it didn't work out (the frame came with the photos that couldn't be removed) but I love the pictures and can't wait to actually use them. Check it out below.

I think we've got the swing of things

Finally, we've come to our last post in what's turned out to be a "series" on doors. We couldn't talk about doors and not look at the most common type...swing doors. Now there are two options when it comes to swing doors, those that just open and close, and those that actually swing back and forth. I don't know that I'd want a true back and forth swing door in my home but to each it's own. Check out my picks of open and close swing doors, once again these doors are courtesy of Albed and Bartels. These doors display varying styles ranging from frosted glass to colored glass, and from ebony stain to grass cloth.






I really like the design element above, they've faced the walls and doors with the same material so that it flows seamlessly, you'd barely know a door was there were it not for the handle.

I hope you've enjoyed checking out all the doors, they can really be a great way to update and change your space. Often times I talk about less expensive and more interchangeable ways that make a difference but a door is a commitment you'd have to make to your design style because they are too expensive to change out on a regular basis. However, the next time the opportunity knocks for you to make a change, answer it with a beautiful door that's just your style.

While I was looking at doors I figured we should keep the party going and check out some great sliding doors for the interior of your home. These aren't the sliding doors your use to, you know the ones that constantly get off track and you wind up just getting frustrated and leaning the door against the door frame rather than closing it properly! Some of these doors have exposed hardware mounted above them which plays to the industrial look, and those doors happen to be my favorite, but even with the hardware hidden these doors are WAY above average. Bartels Designer Doors and Albed are two options for sliding contemporary door companies but once again there are plenty of choices out there. When you're looking for a door keep in mind the space that the door is going to encompass...Will these be closet doors? or Will these doors open up to my bedroom or office? Contemporary means simple so don't get carried away with sliding doors everywhere you turn

However if your space allows you to use more than one set of sliding doors keep your furniture and accessories to a minimum because you DO NOT want the design to become to busy. By the way there are plenty of gorgeous door options that don't slide you just have to make sure your design elements work together and not against one another.

Who cares who's at the door! This post is about showing you stylish and contemporary doors that can indicate what's to come once you've entered. Your front door is one of the first things people see when they come to your home and it should speak to your style. What does your current front door say about you and the style of your home? It may be time to change it!

The front doors shown were designed by Urban Front who specializes in contemporary and modern exterior doors. These were just two of the styles and finishes that caught my eye but if you do some online browsing you'll find plenty of companies and I'm sure one would meet all of you door needs.
