Check the Sideline

If you've noticed the side bar of hue you'll know that I'm an admirer of several chairs, one being "The Ball Chair" by Eero Aarnio. This chair was designed in 1963 and is quite the modern classic piece. I couldn't help but post the new video for Musiq Soulchild's single "Radio", I like the song and love the chair, how could I not share this with you.

Pretty Scary

October is here which means MY BIRTHDAY and Halloween. Check out these home items that are very pretty but happen to have scary names.

The Ghost chair, at $7175.00 the price of the chair is what really scares me!

Modern Classic- The Cherner Chair

I've long admired this beautiful chair by Norman Cherner designed in 1958. I especially love that the chair reminds me of a woman's silhouette if she were to pose with her hands on her hips; with that said I didn't want to post this item until I was able to find the perfect picture(s) to go along with the classic piece of furniture. I thought I'd never conquer my quest (believe me sometimes it's an adventure to find the image) but low and behold I found an entire blog titled "Hands on Her Hips" , dedicated to none other than images of women with their hands on their hips! I think I've found the perfect pictures, art imitating life or life imitating art...either way I'm somewhat awe stricken.

As Seen on T.V. - You want my body?

No I haven't lost my mind...I'm not really asking if you want my body, LOL!

Chips ahoy wants to know if you want his body, in this commercial that is just tooo funny...pretty old...but still funny! Anyway as he slides across the floor, trying to impress his lady friend, he is sitting in a chair inspired by the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobson. I've posted this chair many times on my sight but another time can't hurt! Check out the commercial it is too darn funny.

Click here to check pricing and availability of authentic chairs...more budget friendly versions of the chair are available, but to get a deal you better shop around.

As Seen on T.V..."You"

"You, you you, you you"...mayne I love this song, but I digress.

Raheem Devaughn is back...for the first time. I say that because this single is actually off his debut album, where as the chair I posted a few weeks back was on the cover of his sophomore album. Although this vid came first, I hadn't seen it in awhile and when I caught it the other night I had to share.

Check these still shots from his single "You" that features the classic Le Corbusier chaise lounge designed in 1928.

Classic and contemporary...I LOVE IT! Now of course this chair doesn't come cheap, if you want an original, signed, and numbered chaise produced by Cassina it'll cost you $2,660.00 (pictured below, top). Now if you don't see spending that type of money in your near future you may have to settle for the version that's $699.00 (pictured below, bottom).

I must admit I prefer the more expensive version, but that's just me. What do you think?

As always you can view the entire video below, it's a good one, so do yourselves a favor and press play!

As Seen on TV..."Say my Name"

While I was doing my post last night I started thinking about something I'd said; I can't tell you how many times I've been watching some random movie, show, or video and I take notice of the great design and classic furniture pieces that I spot. I thought it would be fun to share these things, so today I introduce to you the first of many posts that I'd like to call "As Seen on TV".

We're going all out for our first edition so I'm going to highlight 5 iconic pieces of furniture all featured in one of my favorite song's from high school ( I can't believe it's been eight years, geesh)..."Say My Name" by Destiny's Child. One other thing I must add is how I immediately fell in love with the video because of the contemporary room settings and bold colors, enjoy!

Planter coffee table, Warren Planter, 1966
Case Study Day Bed, John Entenza, 1945
Eileen Gray side table, Eileen Gray, 1927
Eames Sofa Compact, Charles and Ray Eames, 1954

Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair (Eiffel Chairs), Charles and Ray Eames, 1948

And as always for your viewing pleasure...check out the video in motion and the great design it encompasses!

Design Meets Entertainment...Raheem Devaughn

I often tell you how much I love music, I think it's one of the most beautiful and timeless art forms that has the ability to reach and connect the masses. Music crosses all color lines, age boundaries, language barriers and it speaks to my soul. We all have that 1...or 100 songs that takes us back to GREAT, GOOD, and even could have done without times! Raheem Devaughn has a wonderful album, well worth the $12.99 and I'd recommend any one who hasn't done so to check it out. I must admit I was on the fence about buying it at first, because although I loved his debut album I wasn't head over heels for the first single, until another single came highly recommended (shout out to KeshaJo at Hello Nobody). It's been playing in my ipod since Sunday...enough said.

If you're on the fence, like I was, take that leap, for the love of good music!

Now you know I can't do a post and not talk about design right...so let's get on with it; I love to see classic design integrated into everything (you're talking about somebody who watches a movie to see what type of furniture was used on the set) so I was all too happy to see Devaughn sitting in this chair on the cover of his album. It's a Butaca chair by Mexican architect Luis Barragan. Now the original chair was designed in 1945 and was constructed of wood and wicker, since then the piece has been replicated and altered, yielding several versions. For example the chair featured on his cover has a leather cushion with whipstitching detail and scroll armrests have been added; the result, sexy and classy much like the tracks on his album.

Original Butaca Chair also known as la butuca

Have a Scoop that doesn't pile on the pounds...

Check out the scoop back chair at West Elm.

These chairs are fun, not too frilly, and very versatile. They come in three solid colors and a "giraffe" pattern as well as three varying heights. Add them to your dining table for an eclectic look use them at your workstation, or as extra seating in your bedroom. Oh the possibilities!

Sitting Pretty

I LOVE these chairs, they've used such bold and creative prints to adorn these very traditional styled pieces! I featured one of these in a spotlight on Anthropologie before, but I thought they deserved their very own moment to shine.

Now I'll admit these chairs are not anywhere near reasonably priced for those on a budget, but I'd suggest shopping estate sales, or just buying a wingback chair then finding a fun print and having it professionally re-upholstered. Happy Shopping!

Petal to the Metal

I'm working on finding a steal for this bent metal creation known as the "petal chair" by PlushPod, what do you think of the chair?

Catch some Z's

I stumbled upon this picture of a "zig zag" or "z-chair" and I wanted to share it. This chair was originally designed in 1934 by Gerrit Rietveld. This particular chair is not for sell but there are other versions available to purchase anywhere from $450.00-$1500.00 each. I like, I like...but what do you think?

What do you think about this "Transit Chair" made from recycled metal street signs? If you like it, it can be yours for $1150.00. Does it inspire you, do you appreciate it's artistic qualities, do you hate it??? Leave your comments and let me know.

This is bound to leave you Puzzled!

Bert en Dennis designed these chairs that are fashioned after puzzle pieces. This design duo is made up of Bert van der Grift and Dennis van der Burch and they create contemporary chairs and seating systems. These chairs have been out for awhile but I thought they were neat and wanted to post them on hue.

First spotted at MoCo Loco

These are also some other great puzzle furniture finds...

Smartistart designed these jigsaw tables (left) they are constructed of solid beech wood and are not pre-assembled so you have the pleasure of putting the "puzzle" together.

The tables are designed and made in the UK but you can click the image for pricing and information.

Check out these puzzle floors! They come in 13 finishes so you're sure to find something that suites you, and they are affordable...yaaay!

Not a fan of the puzzle floor? Well how about this puzzle rug from ona, I think it's hot!

What's in your cart?

You're in your cart if you like this chair titled "Consumer's Rest" by Frank Scheiner. The chair is fashioned after a wire shopping cart right down to the wheels at the base. Is it practical??? Not for me, but I do think it's art therefore I can appreciate it...what do you think?

Let me make myself clear...

Here are some of my picks when it comes to acrylic and lucite home furnishings. Some of these items may be impractical to most, but in the right space this furniture could be a wonderful compliment.

I h e a r t this chaise! (above)
